Things I’m Afraid to Tell You
When Jess hit publish on her post back in March I don't think she ever thought that our community would come together to participate in this blogging campaign. Last week a huge group of ladies began the campaign led by the ever so lovely Ez. It spread like wide fire. I was incredibly inspired by this community of genuine women that surrounds me and when I was approached by Meg of Mimi & Meg - I jumped at the chance to join in. This week a new group is posting and I've got to say - without their support I don't think I could have pressed publish.
So here it goes . . . I present to you a list of Things I’m Afraid to Tell You:
Here is a list of the other amazing bloggers that are spilling their secrets today:

So here it goes . . . I present to you a list of Things I’m Afraid to Tell You:
I'm Disorganized. Although the
pictures show a clean, well organized apartment, I'm actually quite messy. Our
apartment starts out the week being super tidy but by Friday I've got 10 pairs
of shoes piled by my “dump everything chair.” It's now to the point where Eric
is complaining about me- boy have the roles changed.
I'm dyslexic. Starting Sacramento
Street was a huge step for me because I've never thought of myself as a writer.
To be honest, I was scared about the way I wrote and my grammar.
Eric is my editor. Because of the
above statement, Eric reads and edits every single post that goes live. If a
post isn't up early in the morning it's because I'm waiting on him - so now you
know who to blame (just kidding!)
I'm a very casual person. When I get
home from work I immediately put on my workout clothes - even if I'm not going
to the gym. It's a weird habit that will never change. You can also find me in
my lululemons all weekend long if I don't have plans.
I'm SO not DIY. Unfortunately I'm
not a do it yourself kind of person. I envy all of my friends and fellow
bloggers that have this ability. I think of great ideas but never follow
through with them because I don't have the patience to pick up all the supplies
and spend time completing the task. It's now to the point where the joke with
my friends is that I'm a HIY (hire it yourself) kind of girl.
Lazy routine. Every night when I
come home from work Eric and I make dinner and then watch TV. We've had this
routine for years and it will never change, except when there is a baseball
game. We turn on the DVR and watch anything from NCIS to The Bachelor to the
Amazing Race - we love it all. It's a time for us to unwind from our hectic
work days.
I'm set in my ways. I constantly
talk to my friends and family about moving - I've been in our apartment for
over seven years. But I secretly think about how much I'll miss it and then
come up with some reason why we should stay even though I REALLY want more
space to decorate.
Negelcting friends and family. While
I get wrapped up in the blogoshpere a little too much, I need to sometimes step
back and think about the family and friends that have supported me every step
of the way. They are my rock.
Worried about the future. Living in
San Francisco isn't easy - I worry about whether or not we'll ever be able to
buy or if we should rent in the city until our kids have to enter school and
then move to Marin. Although this is all years away, my mind is tossing and
turning with the thought of saving, saving, saving for that big purchase.
New career. Starting a new career
path into interior design. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think
about possibly failing. I've got a strong support system behind me, but
starting into a career that I've dreamt about for so long scares me. I have to
say that I am loving every minute.
No one reading. Lastly, the one
thing that this blog has made me afraid of is that one day I'll wake up and no
one will want to read this daily journal I've created. It's amazing how much
time and energy you put into something - but it wouldn't be the same place
without all of you as readers. You’re what keeps me motivated to keep writing
and growing. Hopefully it will stay that way for a long time to come. I'm
grateful for the friendship and relationships I've built through these past few
years.
Friends, this is not a typical post
you see here but I wanted to join in on this movement because I think it's
important to be honest and sometimes you just need to let a few things out in
the open. If you are a fellow blogger and want to join in on this movement, I
highly recommend it - it's so liberating. If not, I also encourage you to visit
the other bloggers who are spilling their guts today.
Much love to all of you,

Thanks for adding to this series Caitlin. Every single post I've read thus far has really resonated, and I definitely feel less alone.

I am really, really enjoying all of these posts. My nightly routine with my guy sounds similar to yours. Yoga pants, home cooked dinners, and vegging out in front of the tv are the norm. I often feel like things should be a little bit more glamorous up in here, but, hey...it's real life. Comforting to know someone else is doing the same. Have a great week Caitlin!
This is great! I'm definitely going to jump on the bandwagon in te next few weeks
love you, mean it friend. Love that we're in this together! xx
Fantastic Caitlin, hats off to you girls! I can relate to a couple of points here for sure ;)
xoxo dj
LOVED this. And I'm so not DIY either. Can't. Won't. Shouldn't.
Hi there! Your blog is amazing! I just posted something somewhat similar to this, http://www.shoeaxis.com/2012/05/short-sweet-facebook-random-things.html, but think I will do this one also. Still new to blogging, so I will figure out how to join this movement! Thanks for all the inspiration!
YOU are fabulous! Your items pretty much mirror my own! I love the HIY and the Mr. never realized that college chair up in the bedroom well he will most likely never sit in it again as my "pretty pile" has taken over! xo
love this! and i can totally relate on many levels. :)
Thank you for sharing! It really makes all these fabulous blogs seem so much more real!
Thanks for sharing! I just started out in the interior design field too and can totally relate to being completely petrified every day of failing at something that I've wanted to do for so long. Glad to know I'm not alone! And those fears of raising a family in SF...we all have them in this very very expensive city. I think about it nonstop!

Love that you are putting yourself out there! You know my opinion on buying! Save...save....save! Rent now and save up for the big house you end up buying when you move out of the city because the bambino is going to start kindergarten! XX
I'm dyslexic too. But, I think in some ways it's a blessing bc I see the world a little differently than others do.
Love your bravery and list!
xo,

We have SO much in common. Who knew!
I felt like I got to know a whole new side of you.
Your honesty and being open is so refreshing.
Did it feel amazing after you hit the "publish" button?
So glad that you shared.
Amazing idea.

I am loving this series, it is so great to see that all you great bloggers are not as intimidatingly perfect as I sometimes think.
Your post really struck a cord with me because I am also dyslexic and this has been one of the main reasons that I have never created my own blog, even though I have wanted to many times. It is so inspirational to hear that you can have an such amazing blog and be dyslexic - thank you so much for sharing that!
xx

Loved this idea, so I did it too! Thanks for sharing.
caitlin,
you know i've adored you since the first time we met at the boulangerie on fillmore. your grace, your kindness, your authentic gypsy soul are what make you priceless, geniune, overall goodness. there is nothing you can't do, and i look forward to watching you continue to bloom into the amazing designer you are.

melissa
Caitlin....loved getting to know you even more through this post and it only makes me admire you more! You are an inspiration and I know that good things are ahead for you friend! Thanks for the openness... I think I need to get in on this :)

Loved getting to see this different side of you!! I'm so glad Meg organized this. Thank you for putting yourself out there today. And PS, I am exactly the same when it comes to donning yoga gear early and often!
Loved learning more about you. The most wonderful thing about this series is that I have learned that everyone is more similar than different. You are such an inspiration and your blog is beautiful and something I look forward to everyday. Thanks so much for sharing!
What a great post - your fearlessness was so inspiring :)
It's great to hear more about what you're thinking. I've really enjoyed the posts everyone has written. I also am a fan of putting on workout clothes (even though I really don't workout) or pajamas when I get home.
Thanks for sharing, Dear! Here's to honesty amidst all the prettiness, no? :) XOXO
Caitlin,
I knew your blog recently and I'm fascinated by him.
I love your apartment (it is beautiful, a dream!), your posts in blog , their tips, everything!
You are very talented!
Excuse the mistakes, I am using a translator online.
Hugs from Brazil.
i always appreciate {and admire} a little (or a lot of :)) vulnerability in a person- in real life, and on the web. thank you for opening up & sharing! i can relate on so many levels.
Caitlin - what a wonderful post. I am loving this series, and your openness in particular. Maybe next there be a "things I am afraid to show you" with real pictures. Mine currently would be my kitchen... :) Thank you, thank you for sharing! xx
I can relate to one of the things you are afraid of. I am or was and still am scared of the way I write and my grammar. I live abroad for a few years during high school and coming back for college was a shattering experience. I was very self conscious about my writing.
Thanks for sharing...of course we all have those same fears....or some just like......it's called life and it certainly is a journey:)
I also have a learning disability and it prevents me from blogging more. Thanks for the inspiration. I really admire what you have done!
