I'm Loving . . .

These floor to ceiling built-in glass cabinets are stunning. Any designer would love to style these up with personal treasures.

Talk about beautiful labels - I think anyone would buy this jam just for that reason. I would!
This Rodin hand cream has been getting me through these cool dry days. It comes with me everywhere.
I'm all about black, gray and more gray - this look is effortlessly chic. Something I try to achieve every day.
I'm always on the lookout for fabulous tabletop items to decorate with for my next dinner party. This candlestick is incredible - love the way it's twisted together.

simplicity at its finest . . .

This past Sunday my mom and I set out to look for condo's in San Francisco - she's in the midst of moving here. When we came across a perfect abode for her (fingers crossed everything falls into place) we started dreaming up a few renovations, especially the bathroom. We kept talking about white, white, white.

After envisioning how I would redesign the bathroom I started sifting through my stacks of glossies to pull together my vision. When I came across this stunning bathroom done by Barbara Sallick in House Beautiful the search was over. This bathroom is perfection with the white tones, stunning pedestal sink and glossy subway tiles, and to top it all off, a French tri-fold mirror. I'm madly in love with it and wishing I could do this in my rental.

bathroom: which one do you adore?

I always find myself admiring beautiful bathrooms - probably because it's something that I dream about often. From the tile, to the fixtures, to the colors you can pick out, I'm always in awe at how people decide to design their bathroom.

If you could pick one of these beautiful bathrooms, which one would you pick for your home?

it's friday + link love!

Can you believe it's the end of September? I certainly can't. With October just a day away, I'm loving the fall light as the sun goes down and the cool crisp air that has me wrapping scarves around my neck. Fall is by far my favorite season.

This weekend we're taking it easy - spending our Friday night tucked away at home cooking, lounging around the house during the day on Saturday and then ending the weekend by celebrating a wedding and a birthday. I'll also be going through my closet - the office attire at the new job is fancier than my current job, so I'll be brainstorming outfit ideas and seeing what I need to add into my wardrobe.

How will you be enjoying this weekend as we transition into October?

If you find yourself looking for some inspiration be sure to read these lovely posts:

* She's got the eye to create beautiful photos and I can't wait to follow her as she grows her career . . .

* I'm loving this autumn GIF . . .

* Huge congrats to Grant on his NY Times feature . . .

* This week Joslyn and I did a outfit deconstructed swap - check out both our outfits here and here.

* Throughly enjoyed reading this interview in South African Marie Claire . . .

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

I'm Loving . . .

When I came across this dining area I was in awe - the chairs, the tulip table, the exposed beams . . . let's be honest the list could go on and on. This is going to the top of my inspiration folder for our future home.

Fall is in full swing and although we've been having some abnormally warms temperatures here in San Francisco I'm bracing myself for the rain that's forecasted for next week. Time to bring on the cozy layers! These two ensembles are going to be my source of inspiration when getting dressed in the morning - they are spot on.
I'm craving new knits - although I have stacks of beautiful sweaters I always try to get a few special ones every fall. because you end up wearing them year round around here. This Vanessa Bruno sweater would be perfect with skinny black jeans and my Dries booties. Can you tell I'm already convincing myself to get it?

This is one of my very favorite homes I had to bring back. When I stumbled across a photo of it again I had to go back and look at the whole thing - it's just stunning!

What are you loving this week?

gramercy park: at home with headwest design

Many long to have a key to the private historic Gramercy Park in New York City, but for the crafting couple, Silka Glanzman and Jake Levin of Headwest Design, it’s their front yard. Exclusively for Sacramento Street, Material Lust steps inside one of the original townhouses that line the park built in the 1850’s.

The sensitivity of the interiors, dressed against the original architecture of their home is reflective of the “romanticism exploration” of Headwest Design, rooted by functionality, material and reflection on the place. The interior layers of old and new are peeled back to give a collected sense of home.

Your relationship to the park is felt as soon as you enter into the living room, greeted by french doors that fill the room with natural light, as the park peaks through the window panes. Draped with pale green pleated sheers, the doors make the perfect entrance to the terrace that overlooks the park.

Your relationship to the park is felt as soon as you enter into the living room, greeted by french doors that fill the room with natural light, as the park peaks through the window panes. Draped with pale green pleated sheers, the doors make the perfect entrance to the terrace that overlooks the park.

Inside, centered on the terrace doors, the fourteen foot baroque mirror accentuates the drama of the tall ceilings. Against the mirror is a long farm house dining table, surrounded by mis-matched chairs and an apothecary found on a thrifting trip near Wellsville, NY, which is perfect for staging collected glasses, spices and liquor.
A wall of bookshelves flank either side of the fireplace, stacked full of art, design and cook books. Her favorite book on the shelf is a first edition of the book The Measure of a Man, by Henry Dryfuss from 1960. Jake’s favorite is a copy of Wendel Barry’s book of poetry, Leavings. On top of the bookshelves are vintage radiator grates, one of their first purchases in Hammondsport, NY where Silka spent her summers as a kid.

Their bedroom is small, but cozy. The wallpaper, one of the first things Silka decorated the apartment with, is reflective of the original charm of the building through its saturated color and pattern. The white painted wood bed is dressed with a hand embroidered throw from a recent trip to Mexico. Art from their respective families decorates their bedroom walls, including a painting by Jake’s Father above the bedside table and a vegetable painting by Silka’s Grandmother on top of a vintage pale blue dresser.
The overwhelming sense of home ends with what is cooking in the kitchen. The brick wall peels back the original plaster work above and is covered with pots, pans, shaped baking pans and vintage rolling pins for creating the perfect meal.

Come back tomorrow to cook with The Butcher and The Baker at home in their Kitchen and a fabulous giveaway!

lighting: which one do you adore?

Sometimes I feel like lighting gets put on the back burner when someone is thinking about designing a space, but for me it's an important focal point in any room. Whether you are designing a dining room, living room, kitchen or bedroom - it matters. Lighting makes a huge statement whether people realize it or not. It can set the entire mood for a space.

There are so many different looks you can go for with lighting. Sleek, sophisticated, feminine, modern or retro. They come in all shapes, colors and sizes - there's truly a light fixture for everyone.

Do you have a favorite light fixture? Or would you put any of the above seven light fixtures in your home?

chair: which one do you adore?

All of us have that favorite chair in our home - whether it's in your living room, bedroom or a small special nook. It's a place where you can do anything you want; read, chat with a friend on the phone or drink a warm cup of tea and relax. Chairs come in all shapes and sizes, so what style chair do you adore?

On another note, each week I create this series and I'd love to hear from you - what rooms or areas of rooms would you like to see featured in the next few weeks?

I'm Loving . . .

I never tire of open shelving - every single image I come across of open shelving brings on a new love affair with it. The contrast of the white/neutral tones against the black makes it look even more chic.

The sun has been shining here and if it stays this way I'm going to make this wardrobe my staple look. It's perfect for running around the city.

When I came across this recipe my mouth started watering - this lasagna is making an appearance in my kitchen when the city is engulfed in fog.
I've got a huge crush on these No. 6 clogs. I think I've been lusting after them for far too long and it's high time I make a special place for them in my closet. This chestnut color is divine and pretty much perfect for fall.

You probably get sick of me talking about a few things that I wish I could change about our apartment - the kitchen and bathroom fixtures in particular. This bathroom mirror is perfection. Paired with the white subway tile and unique sink - this bathroom definitely has my name written all over it!

On another note, today I was quoted in The Wall Street Journal talking about the Alameda Flea Market. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that would happen but that day has come. I'm over the moon right now!
