thanksgiving ensemble . . .

Thanksgiving is just a few short days away (I'm counting down the hours and minutes). Although I'm not hosting this year, I've been cooking up my families delicious cranberry sauce (recipe here). This year I made three batches - yes, I'm a cranberry sauce-aholic and I have to be sure there are leftovers for the next day.

When thinking about what to wear this year I wanted something comfy and chic. A grey knit sweater with a camel coat is one of my favorite color combinations this season - then spicing it up with a pair of Dries heels and a fur scarf makes it the perfect amount of chic.

What are all of you thinking of wearing for Thanksgiving this year? I can't wait to be on the road to my aunt and uncle's.

comfort food . . .

Since the air is growing cooler all I want to eat at night is comfort food. So, I've been turning to My Baking Addiction for inspiration in the kitchen. From soup, to pastas, to baked goods - this blog has it all and let me tell you, each recipe I've made is better than the last.

On the menu for this week, Mac and Cheese with Roasted Chicken, Goat Cheese, and Rosemary - I have a feeling it's going to be heavenly.

INGREDIENTS:

• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
• 1 pound dried rigatoni
• 1 quart heavy cream
• 2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
• 1 clove fresh garlic, crushed
• 8 ounces goat cheese
• 2 cups shredded roasted chicken
• salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

1. Place a large pot of salted water over high heat and bring to a rapid boil. Add the oil and rigatoni to the water and cook according to the directions on the package, 10-12 minutes.

2. While you are waiting for the water to boil, pour the cream into a large sauce pan over medium heat. Add the rosemary and garlic to the cream and bring it to a simmer - take care not to let it boil over. Allow the cream to reduce by about half.

3. Stir in the goat cheese and chicken and continue cooking it till the cream coats the back of a spoon.

4. Thoroughly drain the pasta. Add the pasta to the sauce. Coat the pasta in the sauce and simmer over low heat for a few minutes. Serve hot.

I'm Loving . . .

I’m all about the classics this season – it definitely makes it easier to get ready in the morning. Grey, off white and camel are my go to colors for the entire season.

This mac & cheese w/ roasted chicken, goat cheese, and rosemary looks like a decadent winter treat for a cold night at home.
You can never have enough letterpress cards and these are stunning. I’m putting them on my Christmas wish list (hint hint).

I’ve been trying to figure out where I could put a fiddlehead fig tree in my apartment, but there just isn’t enough room – believe me I’ve looked in every corner. I love the mix of the fig branch with the tree in the background. One day I will have my own!

You're Invited: Celebrating CARROTS 4th Birthday!

CARROTS has been one of my favorite San Francisco shops since the day it opened four years ago. I vividly remember going by with my 7x7 coworker to write a story about the opening - back then I was an intern. Now, I'm dear friends with the two owners Melissa and Catherine. When you walk into CARROTS it's as if you're welcomed into their home. I cannot believe they are about to celebrate their four year anniversary on Thursday.

CARROTS is my go-to shop for basics every season. They have amazing lines that can handle being worn day in and day out. This year I'm coveting far too many items at CARROTS.

At the top of my wish list:

* Dean Hutchinson trench - ladies, this is the ultimate trench! You put it on and never want to take it off. I've got mine on order in a dark camel color.

* Tess Giberson's camel sweater - it's so soft I can see myself wearing it every single season.

* Jamie Josef's fabulous cocktail rings - I'm eyeing a few different stones.

There are so many fashionable treasures in the store right now. And if you're like me - I'm currently buying the essentials to keep me warm this winter. Especially with the cooler temperatures setting in.

I'm Loving . . .

I'm ready for long fall nights and getting toasty at home. This quaint little spot with the chalkboard framed (seems much more chic that way), a beautiful pillow and a cozy sheepskin rug is the perfect place to get cozy.

Eric and I love banana bread. So this weekend we're going to mix it up and try Banana Bread Waffles. This recipe looks delicious!

The simplicity of this wrist wear is utterly divine - a watch and one fabulous bracelet is all you really need.

Cold days call for more coffee dates with girlfriends to warm up. Plus, I'll take any excuse to plan time to catch up.

Can you believe another month has passed? I certainly can't - I feel like October flew by since I started a new position at Kendall Wilkinson. It has been a whirlwind month. With November gracing us with beautiful, sunny and crisp days - I'm ready to dive into layering clothes and scarves, along with spending more time at home getting cozy and of course enjoying the holiday cups at Starbucks that just came out (they always put a little skip in my step).

a brand new week . . .

What a spectacular weekend - it was filled with gorgeous warm weather, quality time catching up with girlfriends, a little Halloween fun and a lazy Sunday that I needed in a huge way. All in all I wish every weekend could be just like it.

A few things that inspired me this week . . . peonies from the flower market, a postcard from my dear friend Amy, my new go-to necklace by Kora, a weekend find at Cris consignment - my new Dries heels (can't wait to wear these beauties) and lastly, a Muse magazine that is filled with tons of warm weather fashion inspiration. What's been inspiring you lately?

to bare or not to bare . . .

We're currently in that time of year where you don't know if you can go outside with bare legs or if tights are needed. Yesterday, I took a leap of faith with the weather and went sans tights. Well, let me tell you, I had shivers all day long - the blue sky and sunshine are such a tease this time of year.

This outfit is the perfect look that could go bare legged with or cover with a sleek pair of tights and look equally as chic. Don't you think?

Are you having the same problem? I hope I'm not alone . . .

I'm Loving . . .

This look is stunning. The camel cape with the classic button-up and black shorts is perfection. Fall is here and I think this ensemble would look beautiful with skinny black pants since bare legs would be a bit chillier this time of year. I'll definitely be testing out this look as the temps grow cooler.

The casual feel of this room has me swooning. There isn't anything over the top about it, which is what I love. It's simple, clean and ready to jump into at the end of a long day.

All I can say is YUM! Pumpkin anything is always delicious, so this recipe is going to the top of my husbands baking list because my mouth is already watering.

Don't you wish you could plan out every outfit this way? I certainly do when I wake up in the morning and can't decide what to wear. This outfit in particular has me so excited for fall layering!

on the menu: crusted butternut squash

With the grocery stores filling up with delicious fall produce I've been sifting through recipes books and blogs to find a few go-to's for dinners. This butternut squash recipe from Sprouted Kitchen is exactly what I was on the hunt for - I can't wait to make this all winter long!

1 Butternut Squash (about 2 lbs.)

2 tsp. Olive Oil

1/2 tsp. Fresh Ground Nutmeg

1/3 Cup Fresh Breadcrumbs / Panko

1/2 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese

1 Minced Garlic Clove

1 Tbsp. Finely Chopped Parsley

1/4 Cup Fresh Thyme Leaves

Salt and Pepper

Oven to 400

Peel the squash (vegetable peeler works great). Slice it in half length wise and discard the seeds. Cut into 1/4” slices.

On a parchment lined baking tray, pile the squash, drizzle the olive oil and the nutmeg and toss everything to coat evenly. All should have a thin coat of oil, amount may vary based on size of the squash. Spread them out in a single layer on the baking tray.

You may need to use two, too much overlap won’t yield a crunchy crust.

In a food processor (or magic bullet) pulse together the breadcrumbs, parmesan, garlic, both herbs, a few pinches of salt and a lot of fresh black pepper.

Sprinkle the topping on the squash. Bake for about 25-30 minutes until the tops are browned and the squash is cooked.

a brand new week . . .

I can't believe Monday is already here - this weekend went by entirely too fast! The past few days I was able to catch up on all the NYFW shows, all of which make me want to skip over winter and jump straight into spring. Quality time at home was ever so lovely - making brunch, tiding up the apartment and just being plan old lazy. What did all of you do this weekend?

Here are a few of my favorites from this week . . . I couldn't and still can't put down the September issue of British Vogue - it's filled with fall fashion that has me dreaming up outfits for the chilly months ahead. I'm in L-O-V-E with my the necklace that came in the mail from Joslyn - she and her girlies are uber talented. I've been wearing my favorite leopard Kate Spade flats from last fall almost every single day - they are my go-to shoe for every occasion. This moleskine notepad goes with me everywhere just in case inspiration comes while walking around the city or I'm sitting in a cafe. And lastly, I took a little trip to Birch to pick up some blooms for the house that make it smell oh-so-good.

Hope all of you have a lovely week ahead. I hope it goes by fast because we're off on a little vacation later this week!

Goodbye summer! Hello holiday weekend! I'm welcoming it with open arms, especially since we're finally getting a burst of warm weather here in the city. It's been a dreadfully cold summer. This week has been quite crazy in the Flemming household - work, dinners, events, and more. This afternoon I'm off to pamper myself before a busy weekend – a mani/pedi is in order that will be followed by a trip to Birch to fill our apartment with beautiful blooms.

With Fashion Week rapidly approaching it makes me start thinking about all the cozy knits that are in store for this fall and winter. Can't wait to wrap myself up in them.

I fell in love with this necklace by the lovely Joslyn of Simple Lovely and her girlies - I'm crossing my fingers this turns into a budding business! Can't wait to get my necklace in the mail.

Herringbone floors have always had a special place in my heart - this image completely won my me over.

from summer to fall . . .

It's hard to think that fall is right around the corner - although since it's pretty cool in San Francisco these days, I've been bringing out a few of my new fall pieces. I'm hoping we'll get an Indian summer here in the Bay Area, but if not, I'm ready for my fall wardrobe; beautiful wool coats and blazers, tousled hair that looks effortlessly chic and dressing up shorts for those occasional warm days.

What are you adding into your wardrobe while the seasons are changing? I'm definitely going to be adding on the layers when the fog rolls in.

winding down . . .

Over here on the West Coast we've had a serious drop in temperature. We went from 80 degrees to 30 - 40 degrees in a little over a week. With the temperatures dropping and the days getting shorter, it's time to hunker down in my apartment. I'll be prepping the linens, eating warm meals at home with family, taking advantage of my blanket addiction by curling up in a few with my never-ending stack of magazine I need to read and beinspired by. When it's time, I'll pick out the perfect holiday outfit to celebrate this year’s festivities - who doesn't love a little sparkle this time of year? What I'm looking forward to the most is having the alarm clock going off and being able to enjoy a few lazy mornings in bed.

Mary Kate Steinmiller, Teen Vogue’s Market Editor, has been popping up on street-style blogs for years. This look gave me outfit envy. With the temperatures dropping, I've been trying to put together outfits that keep me warm. I've got to say, she has definitely mastered the art of layering.

Last year I had a staple dress that I wore . . . well let's just say a lot. This dress from TOAST made my jaw drop - the color, the exposed zipper, the length. Maybe this can come home with me soon because I would wear it every single day!

With the sun waking us up earlier than normal, I'm enjoying leisurely mornings seeing the sun rise. It's a time to get things done before anyone is awake - it's tranquil. Although it's dark out on my way home from work, I'd rather it be bright and beautiful as I'm driving in. What do you love about this time of year?

Found: Chunky Knit Sweater

A few weeks ago I posted this image below. Frankly, I couldn't stop thinking about finding my own chunky sweater to wrap myself up in this autumn. In the back of my mind I kept telling myself to find one, and without even looking I found the perfect sweater. Don't you love when that happens?

Let's just say, I've been wearing this J.Crew marled lambswool après cardigan every single day when I get home from work. It's cozy, the perfect weight and the shawl collar keeps my neck nice and warm.

I cannot wait for his weekend to begin. This week I feel like I've been on a roller coaster - a trip to Texas, winning the World Series, getting back to work, preparing for a photo shoot and attending some fabulous events. I'm in need of some quality time at home and I have a lot of catching up to do around the house.
