a pop of color . . .

I've been lusting after everything caramel. There is just something about the color that looks so incredibly chic whether it be a light handbag, or even a bra.

Do you have a color that you've been coveting lately? Do share!

a pop of color: black

Black walls have been popping up in homes for years now. When I first started noticing them becoming popular was after Jenna Lyons was featured in Domino Magazine in 2008. I've always been tempted to paint a room black but have never had the full courage to do so. I think if it is done right it can be amazing, I think I'm just waiting for the right space.

Have you pulled the trigger and painted a room in your home black? Or would you ever paint a room all black? Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

a pop of color: all white

It's no secret that there is a special place in my heart for all white interiors. So when I got a call yesterday from a dear friend and client asking to help pick one for a home she's building, I went to my notebook and then decided to see what others thought . . . I started to do a little research.

The favorites amongst the Interior Designers and bloggers I asked were these:

* Farrow & Ball All White finished with Estate Emulsion, Shaded White and White Tie

* Benjamin Moore Cloud White, Decorator's White and Super White

Since I'm working on this project intensely over the next few days I'd love to know if you have a favorite white paint color? Are there any you've combined to make the "perfect" white? Everyone's got a different white they are attracted to, so I'm curious to hear what everyone recommends.

Hope all of you chime in!

a pop of jcrew . . .

This past weekend I had the pleasure of popping into the JCrew in Corta Madera - my favorite location in the Bay Area (Carmel's is out of this world too!). As I walked into the store I finally felt inspired to transition my wardrobe from winter to spring. It's time to bring out the cotton and color and store the wool. We all know that I'm a stripe-aholic - beware my fellowstripe lovers, the store is packed full of striped goodness along with pops of color that had my creative outfit juices flowing (Alicia and Taylor would have been so proud). In the end I walked away with loads of inspiration about what to do with clothes I already own. I also walked away with a pair of slouchy khaki pants to roll up.

I'm ready to bust out some pops of color in the next few days - especially since the sun is shining bright! Where are all of you finding spring outfit inspiration?

a pop of color: pink + floral

I've been slowly cleaning out my closet putting heavy wool coats away and bringing out my linen tunics and seersucker jackets (although with this chilly weather I might have to halt the process). I've been assessing what needs to be added to my wardrobe and I think a pop of pink and a touch of floral will be the perfect addition to my neutral wardrobe. Plus, the fact that there are so many shades of pink and blush make it even more fun to work into my everyday ensembles. Are there any colors calling your name this Spring?

the perfect mix . . .

On this gloomy morning, I needed a little burst of colors to brighten up my day. This ensemble by the ever so lovely Lucy of Lucy Laucht did just that. The color combination with the nude shoes, colorful statement necklaces and brown accessories is fresh and inspiring. Just what the doctor ordered during April showers.

a pop of color: NEON

Alright, I've got yet another Clare Vivier crush - seriously how does she do it? Last week it was the poppy red foldover clutch and this week it is the La Pochette that's in neon. I have a feeling there are some readers that are going to fall head over heels for this burst of bright color! I'm definitely a fan of this simple yet striking pouch - it's a perfect place to keep important treasures.

Let it be known, I now check her site multiple times a week for the new it handbag.

a pop of color: fuchsia

Alright, you are all probably thinking "what happened to the neutral palette Caitlin?" - well, she's still here but because of this AMAZING sunshine and burst of warm weather I've been inspired by all things color. I even painted my nails bright coral (very rare for me). Watch out world, things could get wild around here!

This post is dedicated to my lovely boss. She's obsessed with fuchsia - ALL things fuchsia. When I came across these pants I had to create a post in her honor. Don't you want to eat this color up? Yes, it's that pretty and I would even consider wearing these beauties.

Is there a color out there that you are fond of? Would love to hear what colors they might be.

a pop of color: pink

Sometimes you just need a little pink in your life to add a little skip to your step. This image has been going around the blogs and I can't get it out of my mind. The simple, yet chic ensemble totally works with the bright pink lip. It's something I'm definitely going to have to try this spring!

a pop of color: mustard

On these cold winter days a glimpse of sunshine goes a long way in my book. Because of this and the current rain in the forecast, I thought a burst of mustard was in order.

This color has been calling my name for a couple of years now. My love for this color first began when I purchased a cashmere cardigan from Erica Tanov that was mustard colored and my love for it has never faded. Maybe it's because it puts me in a happy mood, but I think it's equally as wonderful in fashion and interiors - ahhh, I just want to eat it up!

a pop of color: mix-matched pink

All I have to say is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S! I absolutely adore everything about Camilla's outfit. The mix-matched pinks that look even more fabulous because she just pops out like a ray of sunshine against a sea of black. The length of her hair and the curls are just too perfect.

I've been searching for a new hair-do and this just might be it - thoughts? Love the length and my hair is naturally curly like that . . . decisions, decisions!

a pop of color + a guest post

Ah, summertime please don't leave us. Most of you are transitioning from summer brights to warm neutrals. I think all of us on the West Coast will be waiting a few more weeks as we're just busting out our sun dresses, swim suits and sandals (embarrassing that I had to dig out my sundresses from the back of my husbands closet). This pop of color is perfect for an all white room - I'm in love!

Be sure to check out my guest post on Kelley Moore's blog For the Love of Design. She kicked off her Ramblings series today that will feature each lady that is helping start Rue Magazine. I was lucky enough to go first. I guarantee you find out a lot more about me than you would expect.

A Pop of Color: A Combo

I've been craving inspiration with a touch of white, a hint of nude and a pop of caramel. These two images fed my soul when I came across them on escapade. There is no doubt that this is an amazing color combo. I love the warmth of this color.

I've been thinking about the color's I want to transition my wardrobe with from summer to fall and this is exactly the combination I've been trying to find. The mix of white, nude, caramel and maybe a little brown will be taking over my closet.

I've been coveting these JCrew heels for a long time - luckily they are currently on a truck, train or plane coming my way.

What colors are you going to add to transition your closet from summer to fall?

A Pop of Color: Light + Neutrals

Warm weather is spreading across the country, putting smiles on everyone's face. There is nothing like natural light mixed with soft textures.

To me, there is nothing more perfect than this cozy bedroom.

A Pop of Color: Yellow

March has brought San Francisco beautiful sunlight. It makes waking up every morning a little less painful. Since the sun is shinning, flowers are blooming and the birds are chirping, I'm definitely getting a spring in my step. Which is why yellow is my inspiration this week. It's a color that makes me smile every time I see it.

The combination of brown and yellow just screams Palm Springs to me (only eight more days until I'm soaking up the sun with my best friends).

Tomorrow, I'll be posting my outfit inspiration for my trip next week. Stay tuned!

My Spring Color Crushes

January is almost over, I can't believe how fast it has gone by. With that said, I'm already thinking about my Spring wardrobe and decorating inspiration. I think it's the only way to get myself through these gloomy, rainy days we've been having. I've been on the hunt for colors I'm drawn to this season and I already have some crushes...
I love patent leather nude shoes and these Christian Louboutin's are stunning. The slim heel and the rounded toe make them perfect. I don't think you can go wrong with nude, whether it's on your feet or in your home.
Chartreuse is a color that you have to love in order to wear and decorate with. I personally LOVE it. When Mrs. Lilien posted about seeing this Kate Spade necklace, it was love at first sight.
Normally, I'm not a pink person in my interiors, but there's something sweet about adding a touch of it to my bedroom. I do on the other hand wear light pink nail polish all the time. My friends are stunned when I change my nail polish to something bright. I'm attracted to this new color Chanel came out with this season.

What color crushes do you have this season?

A Pop of Color: Pink

With the torrential rain and gusting wind we've been having here is San Francisco, all I want is a little color in my life. When I came across this pink peony (my favorite flower) it brightened up my day. There's nothing like adding fresh flowers to my house that makes me know Spring is near.
If I were to ever add a touch of pink in my apartment, it would have to look like the image below. I think a slight accent looks simple and elegant.
I hope all of you can find something to brighten up your day that puts a smile on your face.

A Pop of Color: Atlanta Loft

Before 2010 begins I thought I'd do a post a little different from what I usually post. One of my good friends that works at City Search sent me an email telling me I had to look at how a co-worker of hers in Atlanta decorated HIS condo. Yes, a man and his loft is decorated in a hip, vibrant and modern way. I think every man should take a few pointers from this condo.

Meet Jonathan Baker, a man that not only knows all of the best places to go in Atlanta, but gets to come home to his bold and beautiful loft.

He mixes old and new furniture to get more unique interior style. Plus vibrant colors that bounce off each other and give the loft a fun feeling. I love the way he put in a vintage Wurlitzer organ, talk about creative.

Jonathan's decor in the open living room is a mix of all sorts of price points. His favorite price point - FREE - is present in the form of the enormous black and white promotional vinyl print of Jonathan from a magazine event. He definitely knows how to score some deals. The reproduction Wassily chairs he scored at a local warehouse sale and he waited months for this Create & Barrel couch to hit craigslist.

I'd kill to have a commute like Jonathan's. It's only an 11-foot commute and from the looks of it, who wouldn't have fun working in this environment? I love the way the tangerine Eiffel chair by Eames and the lime Series 7 chair play off the wall colors. It ties everything together, but not in a matchy way.

Can you believe this bedroom has no windows? Well believe it. He painted the walls with an electric tone from Porter's "Aloe Vera," which doesn't seem to look that vibrant to me, especially next to the red and blue bedding he chose.

I think Jonathan has a talent in him (other than knowing the best places to eat, drink and shop in Atlanta). I think we'll be seeing more of his interior talents in the future. It just goes to show you, men can decorate!

Holiday Inspiration: Ruby Red

Adding a touch of ruby red to your Christmas decor is traditional but lovely. It doesn't matter what shade of red because any shade will get you in the holiday spirit.

Whether you add a touch to your tree, bedroom, kitchen, or living room it will add a burst of Christmas cheer.

So if you're having trouble decorating or figuring out what colors to bring into your home, just add a dash of ruby red.

A Pop of Color: Caramel

About a month ago I came across these two images on delight by design and I haven’t been able to get them out of my head. I’ve been finding myself bundling up more when I leave for work in the morning. This caramel hued shall she’s wearing is something I could use on a daily basis.

Where do I even begin with this amazing room? First of all, I love the texture of the mirror and the fact that it reflects the paintings and unique mirrors on the opposite wall. Moving to the bed, this headboard is “bananas” (I’m sorry, I had to say it). The room is decorated in black and ivory, which makes the room feel balanced (especially with that leopard rug, oh la la)! Every little element that went into this room makes it work and that’s why I’ve been obsessing about it for over a month.

Thanks Blair for the inspiration behind this post.
