Happy {Halloween/Go Ducks} Weekend!

The weekend is finally here and I’m leaving work early today! I’ll be getting in a car with my fiancé and driving up to Eugene for the University of Oregon vs. USC football game. It’s going to be a big family affair with his brother, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. I’ve got my rain gear ready (crossing my fingers it doesn’t rain) and of course my green and yellow!

Have a wonderful Halloween everyone.

A Pop of Color: Teal

Here in the San Francisco the weather is crisp and the sky is bright blue. This is my favorite type of weather. You can wear chunky knits and knee-high boots but you’re not wet, like I would be if I still lived in the Pacific Northwest. With the sky shining bright I couldn’t resist posting a picture of this room. The teal wall makes all of the furniture in the room pop. I’m a huge fan of dark teal with neutrals and brown. The white cube in the foreground with the lamp is a great idea. I need to remember that the next time I’m redecorating my living room, but I think the brown and ivory ikat pillow on the couch should really be in my apartment. If only it could be…

With chunky sweaters on the brain, I couldn’t resist posting this photo by Irene Penny, especially with the water and blue sky behind the model.

Wednesday Wedding Update: Shoes

Finding wedding shoes was a bit of challenge for me as there were three important factors I had to think consider; comfort, a low heel and of course I wanted them to be cute.

The search was on and I knew finding
comfort would be easy, but finding non-sky high heels was a different challenge. I needed low heels not only to stand up straight (I'm 5'10) but also because my fiancé is a tad shorter than me. After searching the internet I finally found the perfect pair last June, but about a week after placing the order I got a sad email…the shoes were back ordered! The email said they expected the shoes to be available in November. Well ladies and gents, last week I received my Kate Spade wedding shoes and I couldn't be happier! They’re comfy and chic. Good thing they came before my dress fitting in December!

Must Read: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

It’s been a long time since I’ve read such a wonderful book! Having just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, I’m still smiling and thinking about all of the characters. If I had the time and of course the money, I'd be booking a trip for Guernsey right this very minute.

Set in London and the island of Guernsey, this novel follows Juliet as she becomes friends with the inhabitants (who created the Literary Society) of the island shortly after the end of World War II. The novel is told in epistolary style. Juliet learns of the German occupied island and its deprivations, as well as the resounding spirit of the people who live there. As she writes, she becomes more and more intrigued with the stories of the people who survived the hard times, and she decides to create a book based on their experiences. In order to gather more information, Juliet moves temporarily to Guernsey so she thinks.

This is absolutely one of the greatest books I’ve read all year. Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows created wonderful characters and also relationships that are unique. I love Juliet’s humor along with her genuine and heart-warming personality. Be sure to pay attention to the characters because it can get a tad confusing but once it all clicks you wont be able to put this book down. The pages will start flying by, especially when you start Part II.

As Elizabeth Gilbert quotes on the cover of this book, “Treat yourself to this book, please —I can’t recommend it highly enough.” It’s true and I wouldn’t have quoted her if I didn’t mean it.

10 Things That Make Me Happy: Plush Palate

10 Things that Make Me Happy was the first thing I turned to when I got Domino in the mail, so I figured; why not bring it back here? When I first started thinking about what type of guest post I’d want to feature on Sacramento Street, I tried to imagine who I’d want to have as my very first guest and who better than Crystal, author of Plush Palate. I’m truly honored to have her on my blog today. Her stylish and sophisticated blog is my first stop during my morning reading routine.

I couldn’t be happier to have one of my first friends in the blogosphere guest post for me today. We found out early on that we had a lot in common. Crystal not only manages her inspirational blog, but also works in the publishing world, does freelance writing and is working on a top-secret business plan, which is very exciting! Wouldn’t we all like to know more? She promises we'll all find out soon.

When I got Crystal’s 10 Things that Make Me Happy list I fell in love with everything and I think you will too.

Thanks again Crystal for guest posting today!

J.Crew Spring/Summer 2010

Yesterday, I came across these photos in Lucky Magazine of J.Crew's S/S 2010 line and it made my day. I love J.Crew for basic's and statement pieces. Creative director, Jenna Lyons, has done an amazing job transforming J.Crew through her personal style. I love that you can go into one store and get chic, glamorous, boyish and girly outfits. Even though I haven't made a dent in buying my Fall purchases yet, I'm already excited about this Spring line.

A Pop of Chartreuse

Whether I see it in fashion or used to decorate an apartment, chartreuse is a color I love bringing out in the fall. It adds that pop of color that an outfit might need.

This coat is to die for and the way it brings out the chartreuse pattern in the blouse she's wearing completes the entire look.

Although this bedroom is a bit light in color for the fall, I liked how the chartreuse and orange rug complement each other.

Event: The Sartorialist Book Signing in San Francisco

Wednesday October 21st
7:30pm-8:30pm

Paul Smith

50 Geary Street

If you live in San Francisco, Paul Smith is the place to be tonight. Scott (The Sartorialist) is doing a book signing and hopefully answering a few questions. Leave a comment with any questions you might want answered and I'll try my best to get a few in, but I'm sure it's going to be a mad house.

Although it says it's from 7:30 to 8:30 all of us know it'll go later. Apparently he stayed until 12:30am at his DC book signing last night! Hope to see you there.

Style + Interior: Cozy Caramels

Since temperatures are lowering all I want to do is surround myself in warm, cozy colors (and sweaters).  Caramels have always represented warmth for me. When I got the November J.Crew catalog in the mail I instantly tore out this image. First of all I loved the crinkled chiffon dress with a warm cashmere sweater. Plus, the wallpaper is to die for. In the room on the right I loved the ivory tones with the caramel brown and orange ascents. It instantly reminded me of the image from J.Crew. I love when fashion and interior collide like this.

Happy {beach} Weekend!

Tomorrow night I'm heading over the Golden Gate Bridge to Stinson Beach with a one of my girlfriends. It'll be nice to get out of the city for a night and then go to Mill Valley Sunday to register with my fiancé.

Enjoy your weekend everyone, even if you have rain or shine!

Chairs: Taupe, Red, Ivory, Oh My!

I'd DIE to have this chair in my apartment right this very minute. The color, the buttons, and the silver chrome. Ahh...it's killing me.

Everyone loves a good pattern. The white and red geometric print is fabulous. This is the Brooklyn townhouse of interior designer Demi Adeniran, who owns the home furnishing shop Fabrica

I love the look of this living room, but the chair just looks like it needs to have someone sitting in it. I'd me more than happy to do so with a good book. The fact that people are still designing rooms in whites makes me smile. I love a white room, especially the color of the walls with the pictures on it. I also love the white curtains and ivory chair.

You’re Invited: Celebrate the Launch of The Well Dressed Home

Tomorrow night 7x7 Magazine and Union SF are hosting the launch of The Well Dressed Home by Annette Tatum and a tour of San Francisco’s new residential community. I’m excited to attend the event, meet Annette in person and get my own copy of her brand new book signed.  This is the first book in a long time that has inspired me in terms of turning fashion into interior design.

If you’d like to win a copy of The Well Dressed Home, head over to coco + kelley. She’ll be giving away a signed copy of the book to one lucky winner. She will also be providing a link to a discount for the book. Everyone needs a copy of this on their book shelf!

Just RSVP to union@wjagency.com. Hope to see some of you there!

Isabel Marant Boutique to Open in New York

Just in from The Cut and WWD, the fabulous fashion designer Isabel Marant will be opening a New York store in February on the corner of Greene and Broome Streets in the Soho district. Since I usually have to hunt her clothing down, I’m excited about a store finally opening in the United States.

Now I’ll be crossing my fingers that Vanessa Bruno opens up a store!

Time to Bundle Up

It’s on days like today that I wish everyone could work from home. James Merrell’s photos make me want to curl up in my favorite blanket on my couch with a warm cup of tea. Today we have what Forest Gump once said “little bitty stingin' rain... and big ol' fat rain. Rain that is flying in sideways. And sometimes rain that seems to come straight up from underneath.”

When I came across these images a few months ago I knew I’d one day use them for a stormy day. The simplicity of the photo on the right is what I adore, the couch with the fuzzy warm blanket and the simple stool as a side table. Who doesn’t love a warm blanket with a stack of magazines? I know I do.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Our first rain storm has hit San Francisco. It's so dark the street lights were shining bright this morning on the way to work. Hopefully, I won't get too wet during this two day storm, but that’s not likely since I got drenched walking just a block from the car to my office.

Obsession + Inspiration

My first stop in Portland is always a trip to Saint Maine. It’s an amazing interior design store that will end up hurting your wallet. Trust me, I know from experience.

I’ve been dreaming for over a year about a navy blue velvet chair and round ottoman set that I saw there recently. I thought it would’ve been sold by now, but no, it’s sticking around to torture me every time I walk into the store. Since I’m still in love with it, I’ve been trying to figure out how to incorporate blues into my décor at home. Currently, my apartment is decorated in white, chocolate brown and hints of green everywhere (mostly in the kitchen and bathroom).

This image has helped me visualize adding blues into my décor. I love the midnight blue walls in the above photo, which offset the cream sofa, white painted side table and white lamp. The taupe armchair and sofa create a cozy but sophisticated living room. I also love the ottoman coffee table that matches the walls. I think that choosing accessories that go with the room's main color helps tie the dark walls and pale furnishings together.

Happy {Six Months Until the Wedding} Weekend!

Tomorrow marks six months until the big day. I can't believe how fast time has flown since the proposal. It feels like yesterday we were a newly engaged couple. We've been having a lot of fun planning every element of the wedding and can't wait for the wedding day to come.

This weekend I'll be busy with a good friend's goodbye party and co-hosting a baby shower.

Room: Autumn Orange

Since fall has arrived, I’ve been drawn to everything orange. Well to be completely honest, my obsession for orange began when I was in Paris and saw a woman walking through the Luxembourg gardens with a bright orange purse. It was love at first sight.

When I came across this room on coco+kelley, I couldn’t resist posting it. I love how they used an orange and white color combination with a hint of navy. The floral pattern used on the headboard makes the bed feel clean but with a little attitude.  It’s nice to see the pattern in the room that’s a bit different than every other bedroom we see in magazines. The white room with the pop of orange just makes the whole room feel fresh.

Wish I could have this room in my house.

Summer Meets Autumn

Like everyone else in the blogsphere, I check The Sartorialist a few times a day. The pictures he posts are inspirational. This summer meets autumn look makes me want to go out and buy this outfit. It’s so casual yet totally chic. The colors are perfect for autumn.

I love the juxtaposition of the fur collared military green jacket with the fur collar over the button down shirt and mini skirt. Let’s not forget about the hat and orange Louis Vuitton speedy! I love this entire look. It’s unexpected chic.

Wednesday Wedding Update: Displaying Photos

A wedding discussion in our household right now is if we'll display photos of us throughout our lives at the wedding. My fiancé is adamant about putting up pictures of us, and I agree that it's a way to make your wedding more personal, but after the wedding I don’t think people are going to want to sit through a 5 minute slideshow of pictures that we think are cute.

I had an idea a few weeks ago that we should display our photos at the rehearsal dinner instead of the wedding. It's a more intimate setting and after dinner we're having a cocktail welcome reception. It will be a perfect time for guests to look at the photos. The picture above is exactly what I was describing to my fiancé. It feels more genuine than a slideshow. Don't you think?

The Sartorialist: Friends and Fashion

Lately, I've loved that The Sartorialist has been photographing friends/coworkers during fashion week around the world. From New York to Milan to London to Paris you'll find friends where fashion lays.

These were just a few of my favorite photos; there have been a lot of fabulous duos this fall. I've got to say; sometimes it's hard to find two friends that are both fashionable.

Some Updating: My Fall/Winter Wish List

I’ve lived in the same apartment for three and a half years. It’s time to change something. Since we’re not moving any time soon, I figure a little updating is in order. The paint is looking filthy and we need to upgrade our bed situation.

1. Painting the Apartment:

Every night I dream about painting our apartment from a light yellow (I didn’t pick it) to a nice white. I miss white walls, and in a tiny apartment in San Francisco it makes sense. It may sound boring to you, but it would be a dream come true. The question is; should I paint the bathroom a new color? I can’t decide, but I think it’d be fun to add a pop of color in there.

2. Wallpaper Our Long Hallway:

I haven’t even mentioned this project to the boy yet. He might flip a little bit, but it’ll look fabulous once we’re done. Finding the right wallpaper is going to be the hard part. I think with our hallway colors of white, ivory, green and chocolate brown, I’m bound to find something that will look great.

3. Buy a New Mattress and Headboard:

Since our bed is about thirteen years old, I think its time to invest in a new plush mattress. Not to mention that it’d be nice to have something bigger than a full size bed before we get married.

I’m going to miss our rod iron frame. I came across it four years ago while driving by an antique shop. I even painted it myself. It’s going to be a sad day when I have to sell it, but hopefully it will go to a good home. Besides, I’m excited to get a headboard and I’ve wanted one for ages. I think it will make our apartment look a lot cleaner and maybe we’ll eventually get a long leather ottoman for the foot of the bed.

My goal is to get all of this done before the wedding. With work, wedding planning and this, I’m going to have a busy winter ahead of me.
